World's Greatest Bicycle Parade

Parade Info

Setting the Guinness World Record starts with finding a suitable parade route. The rules for the Longest Single Line of Bicycles are specific. To set the record, our parade route must be a minimum of 2 miles from start to finish. Our team of Odd Fellows worked side-by-side with representatives from the City of Davis, the Davis Downtown Business Association, and the Davis Chamber of Commerce to select a parade route that will showcase Davis, CA as the “bicycling capital” of the United States and the home of the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame.

Parade Route

Our parade will begin and finish in the heart of Downtown Davis. Starting at the Davis Odd Fellows Lodge, 415 Second Street, Davis, CA 95616, the parade will travel east on Second Street to F Street where we will turn left and head North. We will travel approximately 1 mile up F Street to 14th Street where we will turn around and travel back down F Street.  When we reach 8th Street, we will turn right and head West.  We will travel approximately 1 mile on 8th Street until we reach Anderson Rd.  At Anderson Rd., we will turn around again and retrace our path heading East on 8th Street.  When we reach F Street,we will turn right back onto F Street and re-trace our path back towards Downtown Davis. Then it will be a right turn back onto Second Street and straight to the finish line.

Parade Time

The World’s Greatest Bicycle Parade will start at 10:02 am on 10-02 (October 2, 2011) and take approximately 90 minutes for the entire parade to cross the finish line. Participants in the Parade should arrive to the staging area between 8:00 am and 9:00 on the morning of the Parade.

Parking

Due to the number of bicycles, staging areas, and the Festival, parking options in Downtown Davis will be limited. Streets in the Downtown area, bordered by B and F and 1st and 5th, are subject to closure and should not be considered for parking. We ask that the people living in Davis, Parade participants and spectators alike, ride their bicycles to the Parade and Festival. For visitors to our community, there are a variety of parking options available. A map of Davis can help you find appropriate parking alternatives.

The Amtrak parking lot at 2nd and G will be available for use.

The UC Davis Campus has a variety of parking options available. See the attached Campus maps showing highlighted parking areas and routes to the staging area. There is no charge for parking on Campus on Sundays.

The public parking garages at 1st and F, and 4th and G will be available for use. However, we discourage the use of these parking lots as low ceiling height can damage bicycles stored on top of vehicles and navigating access ramps and entry points while riding bicycles can be dangerous. Alternative parking locations are highly recommended.

Staging Area

Map of Parade Staging Area in Downtown DavisTo successfully break the world record, we will need to stage all bicycles and participant immediately before the Parade. The staging area will be located in Downtown Davis on the streets bordered by B and F and 1st and 5th. Participants in the Parade should arrive to the staging area between 8:00 am and 9:00 on the morning of the Parade. When arriving to Downtown Davis on the morning of the Parade, please locate your specific staging area by using the directional signs posted throughout the area. Volunteers will also be available to help guide you in and around the staging area.

A variety of snacks and refreshments will be available for purchase while waiting for the start of the Parade. Proceeds from snack sales will go to the Davis Schools Foundation.

Technology In Action

The World’s Greatest Bicycle Parade will be using the latest in technology to help break the Guinness World Record. The registration and participant tracking system from BazuSports is critical in overcoming the logistical issues of registering and tracking 1000+ riders while meeting the accountability requirements of Guinness.

The technology solution from BazuSports has two components that will easily and effectively register all parade participants days before the Parade while maintaining compliance with Guinness rules. First is the online registration system that collects the required participant information and enters that information into a tracking database. The second part is the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system that will that will track riders on the day of the Parade. Together, these two components eliminate the need for cumbersome log books typically used to document the parade participants and the manual counting of parade riders.

After the Parade

Although the parade is over, the day is not done. After crossing the finish line, you will be able to park your bike and head to Central Park where we will celebrate our efforts with the Festival at Central Park supporting the Davis Schools Foundation. This fun, family-friendly event will be the highlight of the World’s Greatest Bicycle Parade.
