“We need a few more good men, women, and children to register to ride in the World’s Greatest Bicycle Parade this Sunday, or we won’t break our record,” announced Bike Parade Committee Chair Frank Giustino this morning. “Last year this time we had so many people register to ride that we had to stop registering days before the event when we hit 1,200. This year, just days before the ride, we are lagging.”

“We need people to register today or tomorrow,” said Giustino. “We’re close, but we’re not there yet.”

Coordinated by the Davis Odd Fellows Lodge, the “World’s Greatest Bike Parade” is an effort to break the Guinness World Record of longest single line of bikes in motion. The current record is 916 bicycles, set last year in Davis. The event will occur in Downtown Davis on October 2. But folks who wish to ride must register by 6 p.m. on October 1. Registration can be accomplished on line at www.worldsgreatestbicycleparade.com. Folks can also register in person on Friday, September 30 and Saturday, October 1 at the Odd Fellows Hall.

The Bike Parade Committee also announced that folks have an additional way to register. In addition to the on-line registration, they folks register manually and in person on Friday, September 30 from noon to 8 p.m. and also on Saturday, October 1, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Odd Fellows Lodge, 415 Second Street, in Downtown Davis., and also pick up their registration packets at the same time.

Registration packets must be picked up at the Davis Odd Fellows Hall, 415 Second Street, on any of the following dates and times:

Friday, September 30 from Noon to 8 p.m.
Saturday, October 1, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Sunday, October 2, from 7 to 9 a.m.

Registered riders who ordered official bike parade T-shirts will also be able to pick up their ordered T-shirts at the listed registration times and dates.

In addition to the registration packet pick up, bike riders may purchase raffle tickets ($1 each) to win one of three new bicycles donated by the Freewheeler Bike Center in Davis. The raffle tickets will be available during the registration packet pickup on September 30, October 1 and October 2. The drawing will occur on October 2, and winners need not be present to win.

On October 2, the starting line will be in front of the Davis Odd Fellows Lodge at 415 Second Street in Downtown Davis. The parade will officially start at 10:02 a.m. on 10-2. Bike riders will be asked to slowly traverse an easy-going, 4 mile route on city streets, closed off to car traffic during the parade. It should take bike riders about one hour to complete the parade route.

The parade will be followed by a family-friendly Festival in Central Park, complete with food and drinks, and beer garden, music with three live bands, and entertainment for the children and teenagers. For the first time ever in Davis, Gizmo’s Rolling Video Games – a huge mobile van – will be set up at the Festival in Central Park, featuring an array of the latest video games.
Only a few days remain to sign up for the Bike Parade

“Only a handful of days remain to register to ride in the World’s Greatest Bike Parade,” said Frank Giustino, Chairman of the Bike Parade Committee today. “The parade starts on the morning of October 2, but we have to cut off registrations by 6 p.m. on October 1. For those who want to be part of our effort to break the world record, time is truly running out.”

Coordinated by the Davis Odd Fellows Lodge, the “World’s Greatest Bike Parade” is an effort to break the Guinness World Record of longest single line of bikes in motion. The current record is 916 bicycles. The event will occur in Downtown Davis on October 2. But folks who wish to ride must register by 6 p.m. on October 1. Registration can be accomplished on line at www.worldsgreatestbicycleparade.com.

The Bike Parade Committee also announced today that folks have an additional way to register. They can register manually and in person on Friday, September 30 from noon to 8 p.m. and also on Saturday, October 1, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Odd Fellows Lodge, 415 Second Street, in Downtown Davis.

(this date and time is reserved for out-of-town bike riders).

The Davis Odd Fellows Lodge announced in June that they would lead an effort to break the Guinness World record for the longest single line of bicycles. The attempt will be made on Sunday morning, October 2. The current record is held by Davis at 916 bikes in a “parade” last October.

In addition, a coffee cart, featuring coffee and de-caf, lattes, espresso, and other coffee bean drinks, will be available for bike riders and their families in the staging area and also during the Festival in Central Park.

Participation in the parade is open to the general public with a minimum age requirement of 7, and the Odd Fellows invite bike riders from throughout Northern California to join the parade, break the record and help raise money for the Davis Schools. A bike must travel the entire parade route, start to finish, to count. Tandem bikes can participate but even though they carry two riders, tandem bikes only count as one bike toward the record. Persons who are disabled or who otherwise require a three-wheel bicycle or other specially adapted bicycle are welcome to register and participate, and will certainly be counted toward the record.

The entire Davis City Council and the entire Davis School Board have endorsed the effort.

Musical Entertainment Announced for Festival in Central Park

Three local music groups will perform free concerts in Central Park on Sunday, October 2, beginning at 11:30 a.m. and ending around 2:30 p.m. The music groups will begin their performances immediately following the “World’s Greatest Bicycle Parade”, an effort to break the Guinness World Record for longest single line of bicycles in motion.

“Crow Canyon,” a new Davis teen band, will put on an energetic, lively and family-friendly show. Their music is upbeat, classic rock similar to The Who, Ramones, Green Day and Foo-Fighters. Crow Canyon is comprised of three Davis 13-14 year-olds, two of whom were members of the local group Hotwire. Additionally performing will be “Marsellus’ Briefcase”, a popular adult band, known for classic rock, funk and dance music. And on the slate of music groups will be “Uncle Tony,” a well-known group of high school performers featuring their riff-rock with a strong appreciation for melody, funk and blues.

Central Park in Davis will be open for the second annual “Festival in Central Park” on Sunday, October 2, starting around 11 a.m. till 2:30 p.m. The Festival will immediately follow the first riders crossing the finish line of the “World’s Greatest Bicycle Parade

The Festival in Central Park is open to the entire community, and is not restricted only to bicyclists from the “parade”.

“This is a family-friendly festival,” said Bicycle Parade Committee spokesman Dave Rosenberg. “We welcome kids and adults of all ages to the Festival in Central Park, and guarantee there will be something for everyone.”

Central Park will feature several bounce houses in the “Kid’s Zone”. Bounce house tickets can be purchased on site at the park. The community carousel will be open for the smallest participants in the “Kid’s Zone”.

For the first time, there will also be a “Video Game Zone”. Teenagers and young adults will enjoy a unique and exciting new feature in Central Park – “Gizmo’s Rolling Video Games” – a large mobile van full of electronic games and big screens. This is the first time the mobile video van has appeared in Davis.

A Food Court will be available featuring the unique flavors of Raj Indian cuisine, the hot dogs, sausages and corndogs unique to the Hotdogger, Caffe Italia’s outdoor wood-burning pizza oven, and the ever-popular Fat Face Popsicle. Local micro-brewery Sudwerk will open a Beer Garden for adults. And tables and chairs will be set up for visitors of the Food Court and Beer Garden, to relax and enjoy the afternoon.

In 2010, the City of Davis, led by the Davis Odd Fellows Lodge, set a Guinness World record in the category of “longest single line of bicycles” with 916 moving bikes in a line. The Odd Fellows have announced an effort to break the Davis record in 2011, on October 2, beginning precisely at 10:02 a.m. The route is expected to take about one hour to traverse, ending in front of the Odd Fellows Lodge Hall, about a block and a half from Central Park.

Folks who wish to register to ride in the parade and help set a new World Record for Davis must do so on line. Registration this year will remain open for only the first 1,500 bike riders. At 1,500 registrants, registration will close as the route will not be able to accommodate more riders. Folks must register on line only and must do so prior to parade day.

Bicycle riders can register for the 2011 bike parade at http://worldsgreatestbicycleparade.com/registration/. Members of the public can also sign up as a volunteer to help out on the days leading up to the parade or on parade day at http://worldsgreatestbicycleparade.com/volunteer/. Bike parade rules – established by Guinness World records – can be accessed and reviewed at http://worldsgreatestbicycleparade.com/parade-rules/.

Over 4,000 folks have visited the website to date.

Registration on line takes just minutes, and one member of a family can sign up the entire family at one time. Cost to register for the parade is $10 per person. If registrants wish to have a commemorative bike parade logo T-shirt, the cost will be $20 for registration and the T-shirt. All proceeds from registration, after expenses, will be given to the Davis Schools Foundation for the b

“Folks in Davis may disagree about a lot of things,” said Bike Parade Committee spokesman Dave Rosenberg today, “but on one thing there is no disagreement. Virtually the entire community endorses the 2011 bike parade.”

Community members can register to ride in the record-setting parade at www.worldsgreatestbikeparade.com. Only those registered on line prior to the parade will be permitted to ride in the parade. Children as young as 7 may ride their bicycles in the bike parade, if registered by their parents or guardians.

Time is Running Out to Register for the Bike Parade

“The deadline to register is 6 p.m. on Saturday, October 1, unless we have to cut off registrations ahead of time when we reach capacity. Time is literally running out to register,” said Bike Committee spokesman Dave Rosenberg today. “Hundreds of folks have already registered to ride, and registrations explode exponentially during the two weeks preceding the parade.”

The Davis Odd Fellows Lodge is leading an effort to break the Guinness World Record for “longest single line of bicycles.” The record was set last October and stands at 916 bikes in a row. This year’s effort will occur in Downtown Davis on October 2. The bike parade launches at precisely 10:02 a.m. All proceeds from the event benefit the Davis schools.

“Last year we actually had to halt registrations because we reached our route capacity number. Lots of people who wanted to ride simply couldn’t because they waited too long,” said Rosenberg. “This year we have lengthened the route to accommodate more riders – but we still have a route capacity number. When we hit it, we’ll have to halt registrations.”

Abaton Consulting, owned by Bike Committee member Stewart Savage, has created a well-visited and dynamic website which can be accessed at http://worldsgreatestbicycleparade.com. The site is available for folks to register to ride in the parade and purchase a commemorative T-shirt, to volunteer to help out prior to and during the parade, to be a sponsor of the parade, and to answer virtually every question about the record-setting event. Photos and a video of last year’s record-setting parade are also available for viewing on the site.

Registration this year will remain open for only the first 1,500 bike riders. At 1,500 registrants, registration will close as the route will not be able to accommodate more riders.

Hundreds of friends have signed up to follow the events leading up to the bike parade at https://www.facebook.com/worldsgreatestbicycleparade.

Registration on line takes just minutes, and one member of a family can sign up the entire family at one time. Cost to register for the parade is $10 per person. If registrants wish to have a commemorative bike parade logo T-shirt, the cost will be $20 for registration and the T-shirt. All proceeds from registration, after expenses, will be given to the Davis Schools Foundation for the benefit of Davis schools.

The parade will be followed by a family-friendly Festival in Central Park, complete with food and drinks, a beer garden, local musical entertainment, a “Kid’s Zone” with bounce houses for the children, and a special mobile electronic games van for teens and young adults. The Festival in Central Park will begin around 11:30 a.m. and is open to the general public.

Participation in the parade is open to the general public with a minimum age requirement of 7, and the Odd Fellows invite bike riders from throughout Northern California to join the parade, break the record and help raise money for the Davis Schools. A bike must travel the entire parade route, start to finish, to count. In 2010, people registered from Davis, Woodland, West Sacramento, Sacramento, Winters, Dixon, from throughout the Central Valley, Nevada, Washington and Oregon.

The Davis Odd Fellows was chartered in 1870 and is the oldest continuously operating organization within the city limits of Davis. Currently composed of over 160 members, the Odd Fellows Lodge is a fraternal order open to men and women. It is non-political, non-sectarian, and ethnically diverse. The organization provides community support to numerous organizations and charitable groups.

2011 Bicycle Parade Program Announced

The “Bicycle Parade Committee” today announced the program for the 2011 effort to break the Guinness World record for the “longest single line of bicycles”.

“We invite registered bicycle riders to arrive in the staging area in Downtown Davis no earlier than 8 and no later than 9 a.m. on Sunday, October 2, said Bicycle Parade Committee Chair Frank Giustino. “The parade of bicycles will begin at precisely 10:02 a.m. on 10-2. The parade Master of Ceremonies and official starter will be Judge Dave Rosenberg. Official witnesses on behalf of Guinness World Records are Former Davis Mayors Ann M. Evans and Maynard Skinner. The official lead riders who will set the pace for the bike parade are Mayor Joe Krovoza, Odd Fellows Noble Grand Dave Reed, and Odd Fellow Stella Ruiz, who served as one of last year’s lead riders.”

Former Mayor Ann M. Evans takes over as an official witness from Former Mayor Ruth Asmundson who will be in Manila on the day of the parade. The official witnesses verify the parade’s record to Guinness.

In 2010, the City of Davis, led by the Davis Odd Fellows Lodge, set a Guinness World record in the category of “longest single line of bicycles” with 916 moving bikes in a line. The Odd Fellows have announced an effort to break the Davis record in 2011, on October 2.

The Odd Fellows hope to break the record with over 1,200 moving bikes in a line. This year, the route has been lengthened to almost four miles to accommodate more bicyclists.

The bike parade route will begin and end in front of the Davis Odd Fellows Lodge Hall on 415 2nd Street in Downtown Davis. The staging area for bikes and riders will be to the west of the Lodge Hall. Bikes will proceed from the staging area across the starting line and head east on 2nd Street toward F Street, turn north (left) on F Street and will ride up the 14th Street, making a U-turn just before the F and 14th intersection, riding south on F Street till 8th Street. Bikes will then turn west (right) on 8th Street and ride on 8th Street toward Anderson Road. Bikes will make a U-turn just before the 8th and Anderson intersection and proceed back down 8th Street heading east toward F Street. Bikes will turn south (right) on F Street and head back to 2nd Street, where they will turn west (right) on 2nd Street back to the finish line in front of 415 2nd Street.

“I urge folks to register to ride soon. Time is running out,” said Giustino. “Only folks who have registered are permitted to take part in this Guinness World Record effort.”

Folks who wish to register to ride in the parade and help set a new World Record for Davis can now do so only on line. Registration this year will remain open for only the first 1,500 bike riders. At 1,500 registrants, registration will close as the route will not be able to accommodate more riders.

The parade will be followed by a family-friendly Festival in Central Park, complete with food from local restaurants, a coffee cart, and a beer garden, local musical entertainment, and a “Kid’s Zone” for the children. The Kid’s Zone will feature bounce houses and a new element this year for teenagers – a large mobile van called “Gizmo’s Rolling Video Games”. The Festival in Central Park will begin around 11 a.m. and is open to the entire community, not just the riders in the bike parade.

Time to Register for the Parade Runs Out Soon

“Less than 30 days remain to register for the World’s Greatest Bicycle Parade and be part of a Guinness World Record,” said Bicycle Parade Committee spokesman Dave Rosenberg today. “Time is running out to register. Only those who are registered can be part of the record-setting longest single line of bicycles in motion.”

Registration is open to the public and can only be done on line.

Registration this year will remain open for only the first 1,500 bike riders. At 1,500 registrants, registration will close as the route will not be able to accommodate more riders. The route winds through the Downtown and central Davis and is just under 4 miles in length. The parade of bikes will move at a very gentle pace, and the event is open to registrants as young as 7 years of age at the time of the parade.

The parade will be followed by a family-friendly Festival in Central Park, complete with a food court featuring popular local restaurants, a beer garden featuring Sudwerk beer on tap, a coffee shop, local musical entertainment, and a “Kid’s Zone” featuring bounce houses. A new element this year is geared for teenagers – a large mobile van called “Gizmo’s Rolling Video Games”. The Festival in Central Park will begin around 11 a.m. and is open to the bike riders and the entire community.
