All In All, A Very Good Day

The following statement was issued today by the Bicycle Parade Committee, following the 2011 “World’s Greatest Bicycle Parade” and the “Festival in Central Park”:

“People asked us today: ‘Did we set the record?’ Indeed we did. We set the record for most fun on a single day in Davis. We set the record for most beautiful weather in October. We set the record for elevating public attention about bicycles as a mode of transport. And we set the record for contributions on a single day to the schools.

“Regarding the Guinness World Record for most bikes in motion in a line, today we got what can only be described as the ‘Silver Medal’ with an unofficial count of 682 bikes in a row. We are second best in the world. Only surpassed by the record that we set last year in Davis at 916.

“All in all, a very good day. Thank you, Odd Fellows. And thank you, Davis.”

The Bike Parade Committee is composed of 21 members of the Davis Odd Fellows Lodge, chaired by Frank Giustino, and including Dave Reed, Sheryl Cambron, Stewart Savage, Dyke Mundy, Lea Rosenberg, Juelie Roggli, Nancy Houlding, Steve Lopez. Jennifer Dath, Jonathan Bissoon Dath, Irene Fecht, Chuck White, Mark Rutheiser, Mike Jansen, Darren Pytel, Darrell Pereira, Stella Ruiz, James Bledsoe, Penny Smith and Dave Rosenberg.
